What a good estimate contains
- A breakdown of labor and materials, so the client sees where the money goes
- A "valid until" date, because prices of materials change
- What is not included, to avoid disputes later
- How changes to the scope will be handled and approved
Estimate vs. invoice
An estimate is a proposal sent before the work; it is not a request for payment. An invoice is sent after (or during) the work and asks to be paid by a due date. In InvoiceCrisp you can change the document type at any time and keep all the details.
Frequently asked questions
Is InvoiceCrisp really free?
Yes. You can create and download unlimited invoices, estimates and receipts for free, with no sign-up. The free version uses the Classic template and adds a small "Created with InvoiceCrisp" line at the bottom. Pro removes it and adds more templates, saved clients and history.
Where is my data stored?
Only in your browser, on your device. Your business details, clients and invoices are never uploaded to our servers. Use "Back up data" to keep a copy or move it to another computer.
Is an estimate legally binding?
Generally an estimate is an approximate price, not a fixed contract price. If you want the price to be binding, use a quote (fixed price) or a signed contract. This is general information, not legal advice.
